Double aortic arch diagnosed in a 44-year-old woman with recurring respiratory infections
Complete vascular rings are originated because of the persistence of the fourth aortic arches, which surround the trachea and esophagus partially or completely, compressing them. The most common type of complete vascular ring is the double aortic arch. Symptoms usually appear in the first months of life, and are provoked by esophageal and tracheal compression. The diagnosis is usually made thro...

A 63-year-old woman with COPD presented to our hospital with complaints of breathlessness on exertion, productive cough and weight loss. Chest X-ray showed a bright silhouette extending from the aortic knob in the right paratracheal area on the PA-view and a posterior indentation of the tracheal air column on the lateral view. Tracheal defects can lead to difficulties in airway management in newborns. Tracheal atresia is a very rare entity with high mortality that presents a challenge to the anesthesiologist. We report a case of a newborn with tracheal atresia, esophageal atresia and double tracheoesophageal fistula, which ventilation, until the 6th day of life, was assured through an esophageal intubation.

A case of tracheal compression in an infant after repair of a tracheo-oesophageal fistula and oesophageal atresia is reported. Tracheopexy completely relieved the symptoms of apnoeic attacks, cyanosis, and convulsions. We suggest that tracheal compression in infants and children with repaired oesophgeal atresia can not only cause life-threatening attacks but also be responsible for recurrent ch...
